Does Bushey Meads School Use the 11 Plus?

Bushey Meads School does not currently require children to sit the South West Hertfordshire 11 Plus or another academic entrance test for normal Year 7 admission.

This is important because Bushey Meads was historically connected with the South West Hertfordshire testing arrangements. Older information online may therefore still associate the school with Verbal Reasoning and Maths entrance testing.

Bushey Meads subsequently withdrew from the consortium testing arrangements. Current applicants should not assume that they need to sit the South West Herts 11 Plus simply because they are applying to Bushey Meads.

How Does Bushey Meads School Admission Work?

Bushey Meads School is a comprehensive school rather than an academically selective grammar school.

Where the school receives more applications than there are places available, its published oversubscription criteria determine how places are allocated.

These criteria can include priority for looked-after and previously looked-after children, children attending primary schools within the Bushey St James Trust, eligible children of staff, siblings and former siblings, exceptional medical circumstances and proximity to the school.

There is therefore no Bushey Meads 11 Plus pass mark or entrance-test score that families need to achieve.

Admissions criteria can change between admission years, so families should always check the current policy before applying rather than relying on historic distance figures or previous years’ application numbers.

Bushey Meads and the South West Hertfordshire 11 Plus

Bushey Meads School is located in an area where several other secondary schools use the South West Hertfordshire Consortium tests as part of their admissions arrangements.

However, Bushey Meads itself is not currently one of the schools requiring that academic test for admission.

Families applying to Bushey Meads as well as other selective or partially selective schools in the area should therefore check each school’s admissions requirements separately. Preparation for a South West Hertfordshire entrance test may be relevant to another school on a family’s application list, but it should not be undertaken specifically because of an application to Bushey Meads.
