The English section consists of a 5-minute practice section followed by a 25-minute timed English test.

The Verbal Reasoning section consists of a 5-minute practice section followed by a 20-minute timed Verbal Reasoning test.

Paper 2 — Non-Verbal Reasoning and Mathematics

Paper 2 also lasts 55 minutes in total.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning element consists of five separately timed 5-minute subtests.

The Mathematics section consists of a 5-minute practice section followed by a 25-minute timed Mathematics test.

The current Redbridge assessment uses multiple-choice questions.

What Does the Woodford County High School for Girls Exam Format Mean for Preparation?

The Redbridge test requires balanced preparation across English, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Maths.

English preparation should develop comprehension, vocabulary and technical English, while Verbal Reasoning requires strong vocabulary alongside systematic methods for different question types.

Maths should become secure across the relevant KS2 skills before children move towards mixed questions and tighter time limits.

The separately timed Non-Verbal Reasoning subtests mean children also need to become comfortable working accurately within short, fixed sections rather than treating the whole paper as one unrestricted block of time.

A sensible progression is literacy and numeracy foundations → subject skills → reasoning techniques → accuracy → flexible application → revision → timed work → mocks.

Woodford County High School for Girls 11 Plus Pass Marks

We do not provide one fixed raw practice-paper percentage that should be treated as a permanent Woodford County High School for Girls 11 Plus pass mark.

Results from our Redbridge mocks are best used to measure progress and identify weaker areas in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, accuracy, timing and exam technique rather than as a direct prediction of an official entrance-test result.

How to Prepare for Woodford County High School for Girls 11 Plus

Effective preparation should develop secure underlying subject knowledge and reasoning skills before children rely heavily on complete timed mock papers.

Once individual skills and techniques are established, preparation should gradually become more mixed and more timed so children learn to recognise the correct approach independently while maintaining accuracy.

English Preparation

English preparation should develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Children should become comfortable reading unfamiliar passages carefully, identifying relevant evidence and distinguishing between closely matched answer choices.

Regular reading and deliberate vocabulary development are particularly useful because stronger vocabulary also supports Verbal Reasoning.

Maths Preparation

Maths preparation should begin with secure KS2 foundations. Times tables, mental Maths and the four operations should become accurate and reliable before substantial time pressure is introduced.

Children should then progress towards mixed mathematical questions where they need to identify independently which method is required.

Timed practice can be introduced gradually so children learn to work accurately within the Redbridge Maths section.

Vocabulary Preparation

Vocabulary supports both English and Verbal Reasoning and should be developed consistently throughout preparation.

Children should encounter new words repeatedly and in different contexts so they develop genuine understanding rather than simply memorising short definitions.

Regular reading can help, particularly when unfamiliar vocabulary is discussed, understood and revisited.

Verbal Reasoning Preparation

Verbal Reasoning requires children to combine vocabulary knowledge with systematic reasoning techniques.

Individual question types should initially be learnt separately so children understand how each works and can develop a reliable method.

Preparation should then become increasingly mixed so children have to identify the required technique independently.

Non-Verbal Reasoning Preparation

Non-Verbal Reasoning rewards careful and systematic observation.

Children should learn to identify visual relationships involving features such as shape, position, pattern, rotation and reflection rather than selecting an answer simply because it appears plausible.

The Redbridge test uses five separately timed 5-minute Non-Verbal Reasoning subtests, so timed preparation should eventually reproduce the need to work accurately within short individual sections.
